Went to the annual mineral's industry chili cook-off at the Events Center yesterday. Each year mineral companies and their service companies charge $10.00 per person to sample as much chili as one can take. This year there were 46 booths and they're in competition with one another by each person sampling and returning a ballot for his/her favorite chili. The competition is fierce. They also charge $3.00 for beer and a dollar for a can of pop. I don't think a person can make it through too many booths without needing something to drink. I would say that beer sales were outnumbering pop sales by at least a two to one margin. I estimate I made it to around 20 booths. I avoid the hot chili as much as I can but every once in a while a person gets one that clears up the sinuses.
I got there around 11:45 and there were probably more than 500 people on the floor visiting the booths. It was crowded. Since I didn't sample most of them, I didn't turn in a ballot but it's a great way to get one's chili fix.
